See how a class is doing this grading period

You don't want one all-time blur — you want to know how this class is doing THIS quarter, how they did last quarter, and whether they're moving. Grading periods let you slice a class's scores by the term you actually teach in.

Define your grading periods for a class — name them whatever you like (Fall Semester, Q1, Trimester 2) with a start and end date — then pick one from the Period dropdown on the class page. The scoring grid, the mastery numbers, and the class report all narrow to just that period's work, so “how are we doing this quarter” is one click. Scores sort into periods automatically by the date you recorded them, so nothing needs re-entering. Switch periods to compare, or choose All time for the full-year view.

A Lessonpress class page with the Period dropdown set to “Term 1” — the mastery KPIs and scoring grid below it show only that grading period's scores.

How it fits together

  1. Set up your periods once

On a class, open “Manage periods” and add each grading period you use — a name plus a start and end date. Semesters, trimesters, quarters, whatever your school runs on.

  2. Pick a period

Use the Period dropdown at the top of the class. The scoring grid, the mastery percentages, and the class report all filter to just that period's scores.

  3. Read this period's picture

You see who's secure and who's behind for the work you assigned in that window — not blended with last term. The reteach and enrichment tools work straight from the filtered view.

    Reteach what's behind
  4. Switch to compare, or All time

Flip between periods to see how the class moved term over term, or choose All time for the whole year. Scores land in a period by their date — you never re-file anything.

Common questions

How do scores get sorted into a period?

Automatically, by date. A score belongs to whichever period's date range contains the day you recorded it — so you set the period dates once and nothing needs re-entering.

Can I compare one quarter to the next?

Yes — switch the Period dropdown between them and the grid, mastery numbers, and report update each time. (A side-by-side comparison view is planned for later.)

Do periods apply across all my classes at once?

Periods are set per class, so each class can follow its own calendar. Period filtering lives on each class's page and report; the cross-class Insights view stays all-time for now.
