The short version
We collect what's needed to run your account and make your worksheets, and nothing for advertising. We don't sell your data, and we never use the student information you enter to train any model or target ads. You can export or delete your data anytime.
What we collect
Your account details (email address and a hashed password). The worksheets you create and the prompts you write to make them. If you use the class roster, the student names, grade level and results that you choose to enter, along with any notes you add. If you turn on accessibility options for a student — a dyslexia-friendly font, larger type, or fewer items per page — those settings are stored with that student's record. If a worksheet is completed as an on-screen quiz, the answers given and the resulting score are saved to that worksheet so you can see how it went. Basic product analytics about how the app is used (see “Analytics & cookies”). Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
Student and roster data
If you add students to a roster, you're entering their names and progress. You control that information and are responsible for having the right to enter it under your school's policies and applicable law (for example, FERPA and COPPA in the US). Because Lessonpress is used only by adults, we never collect information directly from children. A roster contains only what you, an adult, choose to enter, so you remain the party responsible for any parental or school consent the law requires. For this data we act only as a processor on your behalf: we store it so the roster works, we never sell it, never use it for advertising, and never use it to train any model. We also comply with applicable state student-privacy laws, including California's SOPIPA — we never sell student data, never use it for targeted advertising, and never build a profile of a student for any purpose other than the educational service you use. You can delete any student, or the whole roster, at any time.
How worksheets are generated
Worksheets are produced with the help of a third-party generation provider, Anthropic. The prompt you write and the resulting worksheet content are sent to their API to create your worksheet, and they never use it to train their models. We don't sell or repurpose your prompts. Student names, notes and results are never sent to the generation provider: when Lessonpress builds targeted practice for a student who is struggling, or enrichment for one who is ready to move on, the request contains only the standards involved — never the child's identity. Please don't include student names or other personal details in worksheet prompts or uploads — describe the skill or standard instead.
Files you upload
Lessonpress lets you upload a photo or PDF of an existing worksheet or activity as inspiration for a new one. We use it once — to create your worksheet — and we don't save it to our database or file storage; we keep only the file's name, alongside the worksheet it produced. It's processed by the generation provider named above, which never uses it to train any model and deletes it within 30 days. The one exception is content their automated systems flag as violating their usage policy, which they may keep longer. Please upload the activity or skill you want to model — not a student's completed work, and nothing that identifies a child.
Who we share data with
We rely on a small set of trusted service providers to operate Lessonpress, each receiving only what it needs: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Anthropic (worksheet generation), Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting and anonymous traffic analytics), Resend (transactional email), and PostHog (product analytics). We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we don't share it for cross-context advertising. We keep this list of providers current and will update this page if we add or change a provider that processes personal data.
Analytics & cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies for sign-in and security (session and CSRF protection). We count page visits anonymously for everyone, using PostHog's cookieless mode and Vercel Web Analytics — neither stores anything on your device, and neither can identify you. If you accept cookies in the banner, we additionally use PostHog for privacy-minded product analytics: which pages and features are used, and where the app runs into errors, so we can improve it. If you decline, the anonymous counting continues but nothing is stored on your device and nothing is tied to you. We don't run advertising trackers and we don't sell analytics data.
How we email you
The only emails we currently send are account and transaction related — a welcome message when you sign up, security alerts (such as a sign-in from a new device), billing notices and receipts, trial reminders (when your Pro trial is ending or has ended), and the occasional nudge to help you get started. Creating an account opts you in to these, because they're part of running the service. We don't currently send marketing or promotional email. If that ever changes, we'll tell you and give you a way to opt out first.
Why we ask for a school email
To verify Teacher tier eligibility. We review the request by hand and, once approved, unlock the discounted $5/mo educator rate. We don't share it with anyone or use it for marketing.
How long we keep your data
Worksheets and roster data stay until you delete them. To avoid holding children's information indefinitely, student roster data (names and progress) is automatically deleted after 24 months of account inactivity, even if the account stays open. Account data stays until you close your account, after which it is purged within 30 days. Some records may be retained longer where required by law (for example, billing records).
Your rights
You can access, export, correct, or delete your data anytime, from Account settings, or by writing to us. If you're in the EU/UK, you have rights to access, correction, erasure, portability, and objection. If you're in California, you have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, and to not have it sold, and we don't sell it. We honor verified requests.
Getting your data out
Account settings → Export downloads your worksheets and account data as JSON.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our providers, and access is restricted to what's needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information. If a breach ever affects your personal data, we will notify affected users and any required authorities without undue delay — within 72 hours where the law requires it.
Where your data is processed
Lessonpress and its providers operate in the United States. If you use the service from elsewhere, your data is processed and stored in the US.
Children
Lessonpress accounts are for adults (18+): teachers, tutors, and parents. The service isn't directed to children, and children don't create accounts or submit information to us directly. Worksheets are made by adults for use with students.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify account holders. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
